Frozen treats like popsicles and ice cream may be tempting, but you can make frozen pops with a variety of ingredients that are healthier and lower in empty calories by preparing and freezing the ingredients the night before.
Fruit Pops - Simply toss some orange juice or apple juice in the blender and add peeled fruit such as mangoes, oranges or berries and blend until smooth. Pour into popsicle molds and freeze overnight.
Yogurt Pops - Blend a cup of yogurt with some frozen, mixed berries in the blender, then add a touch of honey to taste. If you don't have popsicle molds, pour these into lightly greased cupcake tins. Pop them out and let children eat them with a spoon like ice cream or gelato.
Frozen Bananas - This is one of those healthy recipes for kids that the whole family will enjoy making. Slice bananas in half across the middle and insert a popsicle stick into the wide, flat end. Use a spoon or knife to carefully coat with peanut butter, then roll in chopped nuts, granola, crushed breakfast cereal or any other crunchy topping.
